Sadiya - Sub-Divisional Profile |
Earlier, Part of "Soumar Peeth" the name Sadiya derived from
the word "So-diya" meaning "corpse burial". The event dates back to 1304 AD or so
when Chutiya King Ratnadhwaj alies Gaurnarayan buried his dead
son in this place. After the invasion of Chutiya Kingdom by Ahom King
Pratap Singha in 1523 AD, he created and posted "Sadiya-Khowa Gohain" a Provincial
Governor. It was a place of assimilation of many tribes including the Kacharies.
After the British occupied Assam the administration of this place was
entrusted upon J.F. Nidham in 1882 as the first Asstt. Political Officer. However the old Sadiya dissapeared in the heart of the river Brahmaputra
after the devastating flood of 1952 which is still a nightmare for the
elderly people living with the sordid memeory |
