...Wake up to a misty dawn unfolding amidst the puring waters of Dehing in the foothills of the lofty Patkai ranges. In this dew-kissed virgin moment, savour the golden brew that comes fresh the verdant tea gardens around ....

The enchanting beauty and variegated history of the North eastern part of India prompted the Government of Assam to organise the Dehing Tea Patkai Festival at Lekhapani, from January 16 to 19, 2004 in the State's eastern most district Tinsukia and provide the visitor with unlimited opportunities for fun and feasting ....

Be a part of the thrilling festivities built up for you and unwind as you explore the deep and exotic terrain. Go on an elephant safari and take the trail into the wilderness or drive up the Stilwell road that once was the passage to the Golden land Myanmar ....

Let history come alive as you revisit the poignant memories of World War II and witness its now-silent testimonies at the war cemetery ....

Come and cherish this multicoloured fun-filled festival turned to the magical music of natural love and harmony, in the company of some of the most wonderful and hospitable tribes here - Noktes, Khamtis, Singphos, Tangsas, Semas, Tai Phakes and Duonias.


































Getting Here
Air Routes :
Shahara flies daily from Delhi to Dibrugarh. SA2511 departs from Delhi at 0620 Hrs., and the return flight SA2 512 departs from Dibrugarh at 1025 Hrs. Indian Airlines flies from Kolkata to Dibrugarh on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday.IC 701 departs from Kolkata at 0950 Hrs., and the return flight IC 702 departs from Dibrugharh at 1205 Hrs. From Dibrugarh it is 40 minutes journey to Tinsukia by road.
Rail Routes :
Tinsukia town is well connected by Broad gauge Railway. All Important trains viz. Rajdhani Express (twice a week), Brahmaputra Mail (daily), Kamrup Express (daily), Inter-city Express (daily) runs to and fro. The New Tinsukia Railway station is located in the Tinsukia town.
Road :
The 37 National highway connects Tinsukia with rest of the country. There is regular Day & Night Delux Bus services from Guwahati to Tinsukia.
We shall be having receiption counters at Mohanbari Airport/ New Tinsukia Railway Station and at Panitola - the district boundary. Please get in touch with volunteers in the reception counters for free folders and route maps etc.
Lekhapani, the festival site is situated at a distance of 70 Kms. From Tinsukia Town and connected by motorable road via National Highway 38 (Please see the sketch).
 


































WILDERNESS ON EARTH - Unravel the wildlife & orinthological mystery
Dibru Saikhowa National Park : Get there to Guijan -10 kms away from Tinsukia town for obtaining permission from the Forest office which is located in the fringe area of the Park for entry in to the National Park.Entry into the Park is possible by Boat only. You should contact Sri N. Mahanta, DFO, Wildlife Division Tinsukia [Phone 0374-331472 (O), 333082 (R) ] / Sri Ranjeet Dutta, Range Officer, Guijan Wildlife Range (phone 0374-37569) and volunteers of Purvi Discovery for assistance.
Namdapha Tiger Reserve : Located in the Changlang district of Arunachal pradesh. The Namdapha Tiger Reserve is well connected by road from Tinsukia town.Distance -120 km from Tinsikia. On the way to Namdapha,there is a small township-Miao where the office of the Field director of the Namdapha Tiger Reserve is located. Get permission from the Field Director for entry into the Tiger Reserve and for accommodation at Deban. [Phone 03807-22249 (O), 22253 (R) ]. Bherjan - Borjan - Padumoni Wildlife Sanctuary : The sanctuary has three units-located within the radius of 7 km of Tinsukia town and connected by motorable road. To get into the sanctuary obtain permission from the Information center in the campus of the Tinsukia Range office, Rangagora Road, Tinsukia. You should contact Sri N. Tropical wet evergreen Forests : The beauty of the continuous patches of tropical wet evergreen forests can be enjoyed by visiting the reserve forests of Digboi and Doomdooma Forest Divisions. This region has the highest density of golf courses in India- which are very picturesque and challenging. The main golf courses are :

  • The scenic beauty of the region takes one further down the corridors of time-almost to the first dawn of creation. And the ethnic groups in the surrounding areas-Sinphos, Noktes, Khamtis, Tangsas, Tai Phakes, Duonias, Semas-retain in their lives and living in their songs and dences, much of that pristine charm. Trekking to Mulang hill-top villages will be an exciting experience in your life.

  • The Second World War enthusiasts will find the region historically rich with the memories of the World War-II which are scattered all over- the now-deserted airstrips and silent war-cemeteries where hundreds of valiant heroes sleep, silently.The festival also offers to the visitors a wonderful experience -a rewarding visit to the Pangsau Pass along the historical Stilwell Road, that connects China through Myanmar and a soul-stirring sight of the mythical 'Lake of No Return'.
 

































Enjoy Vintage Steam Safari
The steam safari from Ledo to Lekhapani on a vintage engine shall be an added attraction for the steam buffs during the festival. Ledo station is on way to Lekhapani at a distance of 60 km from Tinsukia town.
